Every dog has a story. Some stories begin in comfort, others in hardship. But now and then, a story will come along that reminds us why we do what we do and why every dog, regardless of their history, deserves to be loved, treated well and celebrated for who they are.
This is the story of Luna, a once-nervous rescue with shaggy fur and wary eyes, who blossomed into a happy pup with confidence, luxury care and lots of love, patience and support.
The Beginning: Fragile and Forgotten
When Luna was discovered, she was hardly the fun-loving dog she is now. Dishevelled and underweight, she had spent her early months being neglected. She flinched at the human touch and did not understand what a soft bed felt like or the sound of a gentle voice.
Sophie, her new human, acted immediately without hesitation. “The second I saw her, I just knew. She didn't need to be perfect - she just needed to be at peace," she remembers.
The Turning Point: Little Luxuries, Big Love
It took quite a long time to make a change—small steps, soft words, and gentle ceremony, but it was important that Sophie create a sense of calm for Luna; she understood that creating an environment of calm was to provide Luna with textures, scents and gentler/nourishing items, which were practical but also had a soothing effect on her.
"I remember the first 'real' tail wag during a warm bath, using calming botanicals," says Sophie. "It probably was the first time she allowed herself to be relaxed enough to let her guard down."
After warm baths, swaddled in thick microfibre towels and brushed out with a soft bristle grooming brush, the interaction of touch slowly started to mean love. Meal times became an event to engage nutrition in confidence and comfort with an elegant raised ceramic bowl for exploring the experience of eating.
A Space to Heal
Luna's new sanctuary, or recovery area, had been purposely designed - a great, comfy orthopaedic bed that had memory foam to support her delicate joints, a woven basket of natural chews and stuffed toys, and a calming diffuser situated in the corner of the room.
Everything had been selected with intention: clean materials, softer colours, and designs that worked within Sophie’s home and designated a recovery space for Luna to heal and flourish.
The Glow-Up: Confidence, Style, and Joy
As the months went by, Luna's coat began to shine. Her tail began to wag every minute of every hour. She began to strut with good posture and elegance—she was confidently walking beside Sophie, with a beautifully made leather collar that had been handmade for her and was proud of how she looked walking beside Sophie in a way that we could not have imagined just a few short seasons ago.
Today, Luna is the embodiment of resilience—and a picture of radiance. “She's not only surviving,” Sophie said. “She'sthriving. She's proud of herself. And I'm proud of her.”
